One of Peforming Songwriter Magazine's Top 12 Independent Recordings
"There is a purity in Marjorie Richards' voice that reaches into your heart, grabs you and doesn't let go until the last beautiful note has faded. Match that purity with the clarity of her lyrical vision and you have an artist and an album you'll go back to time and time again.

Here is, as the title might suggest, a collection of songs about real things, people, places and moments that matter. When she sings "mama won't you wake up, I'm the daughter of all you believe in / I need you and you need me...", you believe it. "My Back Yard" is a touching account of finding a safe haven right outside her back door. Another ordinary event, a haircut, is given a little more resonance as the stylist readies her to "meet the family".

These days every good folkie has a song about growing up and the damage done. Most make you cringe. Richards takes her shot at it with "forgiven" and her unsentimental yet honest approach is heartbreaking. On a lighter note she pays homage to the fine art of holding an old jalopy together in "Fixing the Old Blue Bug". In the album's closer she sings, "sometimes my vision lacks clarity, and my language distorts my reflection of me"...well, she must have left those songs off the record. Here is clear and here is fine."

Victory Music Review
"This long awaited debut recording from Richards is full of insightful lyrics, thought- provoking attitudes. Her straightforward honest vocals draw you into her world, exposing glimpses of everything from the deepest corners of the heart to the liberating power of hairdressers. ...this collection of well-written originals explains why Richards was a three-time finalist at the famed Telluride Troubadour contest."

"This ability to focus on everyday subjects, to endow
them with a grace and dignity, is to me the very essence
of folk, and Ms. Richards almost effortlessly achieves
this essence in her performances>...Marjorie Richards
comes very highly recommended by this reviewer; her debut
album is as close to perfect as you can get."

"Stripped-down singer/songwriter material that is
as startling in its quality as it is simple in its approach.
Some artists are very easy to quantify. They are
easy to describe because you know exactly what
you like and don't like. Richards isn't such an artist.
Her music is so undeniably good but for extraordinarily
difficult reasons to pin down. But I won't stop trying.
I guess I'll just have to listen to this disc
over and over and over until I get an answer. What a job!

"If your copy of Joni Mitchell's Blue has been played
so many times that it's beginning to sound like a 78,
it's time you tried something new. You could do a lot worse than
Marjorie Richards. A songwriter who manages to be vulnerable
and sincere without sounding sentimental, Richards has earned laurels
in a number of competitions and can expect to garner many more."
